Carlos Humberto Ramírez Lara (Monterrey, Mexico, 1979)
Carlos Humberto Ramírez Lara is a distinguished visual artist whose primary medium is painting,
complemented by explorations in drawing, sculpture, and installation. His work critically examines
the externalities of culture within the framework of capitalist realism and reflects on the struggles
of individuals in a civilization where institutions originally designed for protection now often act
against them.
Ramírez Lara has cultivated his artistic practice through extensive training in contemporary art in
cities such as Reynosa, Monterrey, Matamoros, and Querétaro, Mexico. With a background in
architecture, he integrates architectural principles into his art and has honed his craft under the
mentorship of renowned contemporary Mexican painters, including Rafael Rodríguez and Haniel
Fonseca.
His work has been showcased in Mexico, Romania, and the United States, with participation in over sixty solo and group exhibitions. Among his accolades are selection for the Juárez-El Paso Biennial (2013), an honorable mention at the 2015 Biennial of the Borders in Tamaulipas, and the PECDA 2015 scholarship. In 2016, he earned a master’s degree in Contemporary Art and Visual Culture from the Autonomous University of Querétaro, and in 2017, his work was selected among other artists at the exhibit for the Rosario Sánchez award by the Querétaro Municipal Gallery.
Ramírez Lara’s pieces have been acquired by notable institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art of Tamaulipas, the Carol Rolland Foundation, and the El Paso Community Foundation of Texas. Beyond his artistic practice, he has led workshops on Landscape and Border Processes across Tamaulipas, grounded in research from his master’s thesis, and has participated as a speaker in the Propaedeutic Course for the Bachelor’s Degree in Humanities and Image Production at the Autonomous University of Querétaro.
Currently, Carlos Humberto Ramírez Lara is seeking to pursue doctoral studies to further expand his knowledge and continue his exploration of contemporary art and cultural critique
